Legion | Dungeons – Darkheart Thicket
My vacation is about to end so I wanted to take a moment to talk about the dungeons that I’ve done so far. Darkheart Thicket, Eye of Azshara, Halls of Valor, Maw of Souls, and Neltharion’s Lair.
First we’ll talk about Darkheart Thicket. Because it’s late as hell and I’d like to cover each dungeon a bit in depth.
Darkheart Thicket is basically the intro dungeon to Legion. With that in mind I think it is pretty well designed for bringing people into the experience without being utterly crippling. All told there are 3 mandatory bosses with 1 optional boss.
The first boss Archdruid Glaidalis is pretty simple. He basically jumps around pouncing on people and occasionally falcon punches the tank across the room. I have no complaints about him. He’s pretty good for checking if the team has anyone sleeping.
The mobs between the Archdruid and all other bosses are pretty well balanced. An archer centaur will cause some level of headache but overall nothing is totally busted. There aren’t any real accidental pulls and you can skip a fair number of mobs. These are positives to me.
Oakheart is probably one of the best early game bosses. Not necessarily because of his moveset (which is neat) but because he is chock full of terrible puns. “My bark is worse than my bite.” is how he welcomes you to the fight. It only gets better (worse?) from there.
Dresaron is the optional boss and has a pretty fun side mechanic. Eggs around the boss harken back to the days of Leeroy Jenkins. If you step on the eggs they’ll hatch and what starts out as a small problem can quickly balloon into a big one. As our group learned when a player went AFK and got blown through the nest.
Shade of Xavius is a very straightforward fight. As a tank I basically just zone out and bash his face in. I imagine on Heroic he’ll be a giant pain in the ass but as far as a final boss goes in normal dungeons there is nothing to really bring up. The only tank mechanic to watch out for is one where I can cause people to get hurt and feared if they get too close to me. If a DPS does that, that is kinda on them.
So that’s my thoughts on Darkheart Thicket. Amusingly NOT related to the images above. But I really liked them. For other dungeons I might try to have relevant images but really you kinda get what you get.
